On 9th June 2022, JurisTech had the pleasure of welcoming a group of 30 students from SG Academy. The students went for an office tour guided by our HR executive, Carmen Tan, and attended a career talk shared by our Head of Heroes Training Academy (HTA), Tneh Khai Chy. SG Academy is a technical & vocational education training (TVET) college founded in 1999 that provides students with learning facilities and materials to build technical skills, while also providing practical and industrial training. 

Rated as a 5-star skills centre by the Department of Skills Development Human Resource Ministry, Malaysia, they continue to equip students with the latest technology trends as being the first TVET college in Malaysia with the approval of the Drones Skills  Certificate programme (Drone Technology).

After a warm welcome at the entrance of JurisTech’s office lobby, Carmen begins touring the students around the office while briefing them on the processes and multiple business units who come to work together to build and develop some of the amazing software for our customers. 

Moreover, she showcased some exciting features JurisTech’s office accommodates such as the ginormous coffee machine, where employees can come to enjoy a nice cup of coffee; the ‘Heroes Corner’, where employees can come together to relax and rejuvenate; the snack bar, where employees can grab a variety of snacks to nibble on; the office pantry, where employees can enjoy lunch together; and of course the many fun activities employees can engage together after work hours by playing some pool, air hockey, foosball, table tennis, and more!

After an exciting tour around the office, the students were welcomed for a career-sharing session by Khai Chy, our Head of HTA, a unit dedicated to transforming new hires and employees into tech heroes. Khai Chy shared much about JurisTech from when it was founded amidst the Asian Financial Crisis by founders, See Wai Hun (CEO) and John Lim (CTO), to how it has grown as one of Malaysia’s top Fintech companies today. 

Khai Chy continued to share more about JurisTech’s core values, also known as our GECO Values, and how these values have also transformed the company’s growth, instilling knowledge and fundamental experience in shaping up new leaders. He mentioned how JurisTech’s GECO values are embedded at the heart of the company, constantly communicated in the form of comics, townhall newsletters, and even printed as wallpapers in our office lobby.

Khai Chy further shares how JurisTech is a place that transforms and harnesses new recruits who aren’t from technical backgrounds to become business analysts. He emphasises how many of JurisTech’s employees who’ve majored from different backgrounds in science, finance, fashion, engineering, and business/communications, have all transformed into functional leads within a span of just a few years. 

As the talk was coming to an end, Khai Chy shared many valuable key lessons for students to carry back in ways they can successfully build a career. From landing interviews to acing interviews, and quality attributes JurisTech looks for in candidates:

1. Techy savvy
2. Emotionally intelligent
3. Culturally fit
4. Honesty & integrity

The talk ended in a fruitful Q&A session followed by a warm appreciation and gratitude by the students to Khai Chy and Carmen for imparting invaluable knowledge to the participants.
